I was at Wal-Mart today and I noticed some very small terra cotta planters for $0.42 each. I bought one, rinsed it off, filled it with substrate and planted an aponogeton in it. It seems like the perfect solution for me, because I always uproot my plants when vacuuming the gravel. This way I can move the plants around during my maintenance without uprooting it. When I get some extra money I will buy a flourish tab and stick it in the pot.

This situation is not acceptable for plant naturalists, but it seems like a workable system and looks attractive. Any suggestions or reasons why this would be bad for my plants or fish?

That will work fine! Good idea...
I use them too, but tip them on the side for smaller fish to hide in if needed and just for looks. Too much bare gravel can look boring..
