Hi, i have 2 specimens in my tank which I'm not sure what they are. The tank they were in the LFS had some names but I couldn't match the names with the plants and the guys from the store knew less than me. :thud:

First pic is java fern, possibly the "phillipine" cultivar. 2nd one could be some small sword plants, but my bet is on an aponogeton nearing the end of its growth cycle.

Thank you. When you say nearing the end of the growth cycle you mean it will die soon or just go through a "growthless" period?

They have a dormant period. Is there a bulb attached to the plant? If so, leave it be for a while, and moving it in a month or so can bring it back into a growth cycle. If there's no bulb, I'm prob wrong about the id. The leaf tips look way too blunt to be any of the more common crypts though.

it looks more sword like than crypt like to me as well.

I agree w/Java fern for 1st pic. On the 2nd pic: Definitely not a sword plant; stems are too thin. If the plant does not end in a bulb like structure, then it's not an aponogeton. My guess is Crypt parva. I have several that do resemble the picture. They show up now and then at Petco.

possible apon... watch for the flowers shooting for the top. after the flowers comes the die off. if you don't let it flower you can keep it growing longer.

1 is Java fern.

2 is a Cryptocoryne sp. Probably C. wendtii 'green'.

I agree with #1 but #2 is an aponogeton, this species usually comes from a betta bulb kit
