I was thinking about buying 2 of the 36" lights for an 6'x2'x2' tank.http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3733+9871&pcatid=9871&r=489
I am wanting to have a few amazon swords, java ferns, and some green crypts(wendtii).
My question is,I am going to be keeping large SA cichlids in the tank, and if the fish end up taking out the plants, will these lights just grow a ton of algae in the tank?Would it be better to just buy lights that will not grow plants, and not even try to have any plants in the tank?
I would really like to try to keep a few lowlight, tough plants in this tank, but I don't want a light that will just grow a ton of algae if the plants don't work out.But will having a lightly planted tank even help inhibit algae growth?I have been thinking if the plants don't work,I'll just leave the lights on for feeding, and when there is someone home to view the tank. But I would really just rather have the lights on a timer, like all my other tanks.
