i removed the rock to make it more sturdy etc with silicone I thought 24 hrs would be ok for it to dry but come to find out it will be a few days. I do see tempers flaring . any ideas on a cheap quick fix till I get my rock back in ?

Plastic cups, cheap and you can throw in as many as you want.

Terra cotta pots, regular toss away plastic cups, like the red and blue kind.

Also you could drop the temp a couple of degrees, and leave the lights off in the tank - you could also black it out with a towel or something similar. The lower temp and darkness will calm them down and do no harm for a few days. Just make sure and adjust the temp gradually up and down.
I often do this when introducing a new malawi to an established set up for a couple days. Then bring the temp back up, lights back on and get them feeding straightaway the lights come on. Seems to work as a good way to get one into a group.

Yeah so i see Coler is back hehehe i so was going to say blackout the tank.. Complete darkness for a few days will be ok and it allows the fish to be in a sleepy stupor state of awareness allowing the fish to stay motionless without the aggression.. Do not feed at this state of well being..
