i woke up this morning feeling very hot & cold and i took my temp and it was 100.4. wow i know i dont feel very good but then i was thinking "could it be my chameleons?" but it also could be the sun yesterday me and my uncle took a 3 mile walk on the beach trying to find sand to skim board and i didnt get to burnt but when i got home i felt the same way but not as much. so i really need help here i have a temp of 100.4 and its either my chameleons or from the sun, oh and my chameleons are like 1 foot away from where i sleep right next to my bed....could it be salmonella? if it is the chameleons should i move the cage farther away.

I don't think 100.4 fever is all that bad...
and i doubt its from the reptiles, could just be getting sick?

yea, you were in the sun too long. I've had reptiles for 20 some years and never got sick from them.

probably dehydration....how much water did you drink yesterday?
also, i would direct your question to a medical professional, your health provider, a RN, webmd or any other sort of professional resource that is not dedicated to fish.

thank you coach_z (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/member.php?u=93759) ( your suggetion sounds like it would be a good idea), but i think i'll be fine hearing all of your answers really helped me out. and i yesterday in total the only thing i had at the beach ( and we were the for a very long time) was 1 liter of water, actually probably less, and i noticed that i felt the same way but not as bad at the beach. but i think it is just a heat stroke. also do you think i should move my chameleons somewher else in my room?

Salmonella generally comes from carrion eaters. I am pretty sure that chameleons are not carrion eaters, and I highly doubt that they are causing you any sickness.

Same here. Just clean up after you handle or work around your reptiles and always wash your hands good.

It can also thrive under moist conditions. That's why it was always a fear when RES became popular pets. But most people forget you can also get it from other pets such as birds and fish.

. . . .. but i think it is just a heat stroke. . . .
It is not heat stroke. Heat stroke will kill you, it causes delirium first. You would not be able to use a computer let alone go on a forum. You're body temp would also exceed 103F easily.
What you have is likely dehydration and neither heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Dehydration is nothing to mess with. You should seek medical attention and have it properly diagnosed.

I say just drink some water. Try to stay out of the sun for a couple days, or until your temp goes down and you feel better. IMHO 100.4 degrees is nothing to really worry about. Your body can handle a few degrees here and there.

For not knowing anything about medical conditions, let alone medical conditions associated with reptiles and amphibians, you seem pretty convinced it absolutely has to do with the chameleon or the sun yesterday. Have you looked up the symptoms for Salmonella infection? Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloody stools, abdominal pain, fever, chills, etc. There are a million things that could cause you to not feel well today. Relax. It almost definitely has nothing to do with your chameleon, how often you mist it or how close you keep it to where you sleep. Stop worrying about it being from your chameleon and if you don't feel well, go to the doctor.

all i feel is abdominal pain, fever, chills. so should i defiantly go see a doctor or should i just wait until tomorrow and see how i feel.
There are hundreds of things that can cause high temperatures other than chameleons and heat related illnesses.
Your doctor might be slightly well versed in the field of medicine than a forum of aquarists and herp fans.
I would suspect of all the things in the world that could cause sickness- chameleons are probably one of the least likely causes for your current fever. Viruses can have incubation periods lasting several days before they hit you.
... you might have been near a iguana when you caught what ails you now. ;)

I would suspect H1N1 if you start to feel body aches and fever. I went for a little stay in the hospital last month and actually did have it. For some people it isn't that bad.
Salmonella will predominantly be throwing up and diarrhea.

i just took my temp again and it was 102.8, but i just took a hot shower-could it just be the shower?- and i just checked it again and it went down to 102.0, this is very much scaring me. i have an appointment tomorrow with my excellent doctor. i took ibuprofen like 10-5 mins ago.

ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory so it wont really help you. acetaminaphen "tylenol" is what you want. i would just drink plenty of water and stay relaxed til you see the doc

stop worrying and see the doc, that is my advice.

Please, don't think that anyone thinks you were asking stupid questions. AC members love to help with questions, and will let you know if they don't know the answers. In this case the recommendations to see your doctor were good advise and most likely it is some kind of flu-like virus that will be self limiting.
I don't know how old you are but a temp of 102 is more significant in older people than kids or young adults around 18 or younger, but you definitely want to monitor your temperature.
If your temp goes over 103 tonight, however, I'd go on in to the ER just to be safe, especially if you live alone.
Hope you feel better, soon.
