What's it with New Yorkers and gobies? ;)

it's funny, about a half hour before the lights were to go out, they both hid inside the driftwood tunnel. guess they like their peace and quiet!
I got them from Inka.
I like that their small. They fit the sense of scale I like to work in.

HARD TO SAY, all of them are hiding all day. I saw 2 for about 10 minutes, but otherwise the tank looks empty.

What do they eat? Algae? Flake Food?
Inka4040
08-13-2009, 7:23 PM
They're algae grazers in nature. Personally havent seen mine eating much of anything else, but I've only had em a couple days. The other stiphs in the tank take prepared food with varying degrees of enthusiasm.

Sweet. Maybe they would eat snail jello.

I have tried algae wafers, bottom feeder sinking pellets, ken's sticks, crab cuisine... they have nibbled if passing, but shown no interest in any of it really. I did add algae powder to the water column, and that definately got them going for a bit.
on a side note, I found the venturi adapter for the duetto and installed it, it's variable flow, so I set it as low as possible to keep noise and bubble chaos to a minimum... seems to have brought them out of hiding a little bit.

What are you mixing with the algae powder to coat those rocks? I tried both egg yolk and gelatin and could never get such good coverage
mellowvision
08-16-2009, 8:24 PM
I used egg white and water. about a spoonful was all, and then a lot of algae, then I mixed it thoroughly and used a paint brush to paint it on, and then baked it in the oven. 300 for the first 10 minutes, then down to 200 for 20 or so... until there were no more soft spots.

I wish I could grab better photos of some of the atropurpureus. insane color variations, and they change so rapidly sometimes.
