I am bringing some snails to work tomorrow to give away. I have small containers to put them in with a hole in the lid and I will use their regular water. Will they be okay throughout the day at room temp, or should I go home at lunch to get them to minimize time out of the filtered, heated tank? It's not like they will be somewhere cold - they'll be sitting in my office.

Second, the temporary tank I set up for my babies has not cycled. There were so many snails I have been doing 50% water changes daily, which I know will slow down the process. When I test the water before changing it, the ammonia is rather high, and there are no nitrites or nitrates. But now I can see some algae growing. Should I stop the water changes and see if it will cycle? I have given away at least half of the snails, so there aren't so many in there anymore.

Doing water changes won't slow the cycle with fish/snails in it. The bacteria is consistently multiplying. i would feed sparingly as you can and keep up with those water changes.

They will be fine in the containers. add some polyfill if you have it to give them some protection against bouncing into each other which can damage their shells. You could also sandwich them in damp newspaper for the duration of the day without worries of them having problems, this would also preserve their shells.
