I have a 180 with a huge wet dry. The tank conditions are great but I am looking for something to pull crap out from the bottom. I was thinking maybe a good canister to pull out the particles. Have you got any ideas or recommendations? Thanks, Arkangel77

Your tank is way bigger than mine! Yes that is jealousy talking... but I run Fluval 405 on my 55 and I have been pretty happy with it.
I also run a Magnum 350 on my 20 gal and that works well for me also but is not as easy for me to take apart and clean/maintain and doesn't give you as many media options but works great to polish the water with the micron filter.

My 2 cents!! Good Luck to ya"!!

Well you already are experienced enough to know and by the threads on the Ebay deals for the FX5 for under $230 shipped. But I have to warn you that the FX5's GPH and cleaning capacity especially with side polishing filters installed (not basket), you will get spoiled and may end up sitting in your arm chair staring at an empty cleaned out sump pakage to resell lol.

a HOT magnum with the vacum attachment makes a fast job of cleaning the bottom of the tank - it cleans the gravel and filters the water at the same time and returns it to your tank Simple and yet very effective.

Fluval FX5, you may want a good power head to stir up the muck on the bottom of the tank so the filter can pick it up.

= LOL , This is what I was leaning towards, The FX5.

Thank you all for your Input. I used a barowed Magnum 350 for a few days and it did an OK job but I don't think its gona be one I would choose for long term use. I need to find a place for whatever I get cause my Wet Dry Is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :jaw:

On the larger tanks that we have done, We used a wet/dry , then a large aquaclear on the back. We used a few power heads near the bottom. That kept the stuff from settling on the bottom and let the filter remove it. This will help with your problem of no room under your tank. But if you are going to go the canister route the fx5 is the best for larger tanks, but it is huge. You still might want to place a power head at the opposite end of the tank.

yes a power head on the bottom sound like a good idea! I was thinking of routing the return from the FX5 to the bottom on one side and have the suction on the other. Thanks for the advice!

this is what I would do.
look at the koralia pumps.

hey gunner.. I don't know of any filter that can move as much water as a sump-wet/dry
my 75 has a sump pushing 1250 gph at the outlet on the pump.
my 110 has a quiet1 6000 at just over 1500 gph at the pump.

I use the inexpensive catalina 918 to help filter dead spots.

My 150 has an AC110 for basically that purpose. If I were going with a canister though, I'd go with the FX5. I probably actually will add one down the road to replace the AC

Careful about those FX5's, as another member of AC commented they are addicting.
