I don’t really know where to post anymore. I was a member of this Forum last year and there was not a “Newbie” section. I don’t know if I’m a newbie or not?!?!? I’ve had these tanks up and running for 2 years with no major problems. I took a fish hiatus because of events at work, home, etc….. But I’m back on track and I’m ready to start my new 75gallon.

Even tough all of my Tanks have live plants it is just a fluke of nature. The lighting is wrong and I have yet figure out how to manicure my plants without killing them. The 10gallon has the most plants and that is on incandescent lights.

Anyway I’m changing the way I do things and I may have a few questions. Should I post my questions here or in the newbie section? Should I ask them all at the same time or break them up into several post? I can find most of my questions buy “searching” but there is a few I have not found yet so you may be hearing from me in the near future.

Yea I’m a little conflicted about the whole Mutant Platy/Guppy. I bought a few feeder fish to cycle my 10 gallon! Well, they had a “love” fest and now I have many, many little fish. I have moved the “true” Platys to a new tank but I have a few fish that are unidentifiable. They look like guppies but not Fancy guppies. Some look a little deformed. I have never purposely killed a fish so I don’t know what to do?!?!? I don’t think I should keep raising the Mutant fish but I don’t want to kill them either.

Alas, that is why in the fish breeding world it is called culling, not killing. Here are a couple pages, the first is geared to angelfish but has the general idea Culling is a necessary evil of raising any fish. Even the most successful of breeders will have to cull fish with deformities. What happens when your deformed fish start to breed?

If you decide to go ahead and cull… there are several threads here on humane euthanasia (search and don’t start a new thread as people feel very strongly on what is the right way; very heated arguments ensue). Here is also a page you can read:

Anyhow, to get back to your original thread and questions. Nice looking tanks, welcome back to Aquaria Central!!! Whether you post here or on the Newbie forum is up to you - how basic you think your question might be. I would break them into different posts, maybe 2 or 3 together if they are somewhat related. If there are too many questions in at one time, some might get overlooked.
