I've just bought some potted plants and would be grateful for any advice on the best way to plant them out in the tank. Should I just plant the complete pot in the gravel or remove the plant from the pot and replant? If so how do I get rid of that horrible fibreglass like stuff that the plant roots are covered with as I imagine it would be a hazard to fish and clog up filters. Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

take the plants out of the pot. for the fiberglass you just sort of remove it the stuff slits in half really easily.

there is a good video on one of the major plant retailer websites...wish i could find it for you.

as ozy has said...just remove the plants from everything and carefully shove it into the substrate.

It can take a while to pick all the rock wool off. Get the bigger pieces off then dip & shake in water & pick some more. Repeat

Yeah...that rock wool can be a real pain in arsh at times. Specially if you got dwarf hairgrass.

Don't let them sit in the pots too long though.

i've seen people cut the rock wool into little plugs and plant little sections of their hair grass in the substrate with it. keeps it all together

remove the plants from the pot and make sure you get out all of the fibers
