Potato Gun

after breaking my old potato gun ive been wanting to make a new one. this isnt your normal potato gun, after all afternoon working on it i finally completed it with just enough time to test fire it before it got dark.

This is the "trigger" it was the hardest to make since the spark kept jumping outside the combustion chamber. It was worth the trouble though as it made it feel more natural than the ignitor sticking out the side

This is where the spark jumps inside the combustion chamber to light the explosive gases.

lol. before i broke my old one i nearly hit my neighbors horse. i fired it and it curved and missed my target by about 75 feet missing the horse by 10ft. i was standing about 300 feet away but still.

last one I built, I used pure ether and put 10 seconds of spray... hit the switch.... .....

what is ether? and my golden rue is never spray longer than 5 second. oh and if you use off spray you can fire more than once. cuz it takes awhile for the stuff to turn into vapor. so one shot charged it twice. i didnt realize that until i took it in my room to take pics and i hit the switch and it shot flames. lol. do you got pics of your cannon or is it in peices?

Ether is starting fluid, available in the automotive section. I used to use calcium carbide in my tennis ball cannon. About 2-3 chunks, a bit of water, and let it fizz for a minute before ignition. It sounded like a stick of dynamite going off, and had a mean kick. I haven't seen calcium carbide f/s for years though. Stuff looks like limestone gravel, and is used in miner's lamps.

my and a friend of mine made one but instead of using a combustible we used an air compressor.:grinyes: another friend of ours decided he is going to see how much pressure the pvc pipe could take.:headshake2: it exploded and the neighbors called the cops thinking we were shooting guns in the garage. everybody thought he got shot by a shotgun cuz the pvc cut him up pretty good.

im thinking about making one but it will just be a long tube with a bigger combustion area in the backmount the trigger on top so you shoot it like a bazooka

Nice! I had one a couple years ago. Tank was 6" pvc connected to the barrel with a large sprinkler valve. I filled the tank up with a built in shrader valve. What was cool is I used a momentary switch connected to a 9v battery so I could fire it whenever I wanted, didnt have to spray anything into the tank, just fill up with air and go! Made a great water cannon too

Last one i built worked off aa air hose, and eventually a co2 bottle...
I used it to shoot tennis balls...

lol i can make my own rocket fuel and gun powder but my parents wont let me get the materials to make it. we were gonna do it at my friends house but we cant find all the stuff to do it.

lol any of you guys tried shooting gas bombs outta one of these. i tried it but my barrel isnt big enough for it to work.

Just be careful guys. These things aren't toys and usually aren't legal to keep/make in most states. You don't want the ATF knocking on your door. ;)

Calcium carbide is also used for the commercial/industrial production
of acetylene gas which is used with cutting and welding torches.
