Hello - I am 4 weeks into my fist endeavor with SW. Being new to the hobby and the world of water quality I have been reading a great deal. I am now relatively familiar with water parameters and how to correct many water issues but I still have not found anything to help me with my latest problem. My tank is a fish assisted (fish only)cycled environment with very healthy readings except hardness and high PH. Before I begin my set up is as follows:
30gal (36x12)
1 - SeaClone 100 (I am replacing with an AquaC as the SeaClone sucks)
1 - Eheim 2227 Wet/Dry
1 - Eheim 2213 Can
5lbs LR
10lb LS
16lbs crushed Coral
Several pieces of cleaned Dead coral I received from a friend who owns a 250gal
1 - Small air stone
1 - Submersible heater
1 - 36" strip light with a 50/50 (actinic & Daylight)
1- Blue Damsel
1- Yellow Tang
1- Nemo Clown
Today -
Amonia - .025 (liquid test)
Nitrites - 0 (strip test)
Nitrates - 20ppm (Strip test)
Temp 78deg
I am using tap water with AmQuel and Instant Ocean to obtain proper parameters and salinity. Pre and Post salinity tests show hardness to be 50ppm but once in the aquarium the hardness jumps to 800ppm...Any thoughts? Could it be the sand or the dead corals?
My tap water shows a ph of 8.5 which does not change up or down once Instant Ocean is added. My aquarium initially held this Ph for about 7-10days and is now hovering around 8.2-8.3..Should I use a Ph "decreaser"?
Thank You,
