I just got two new bettas from Petco. One is a red and black crowntail, the other is a blue and purple-y red crowntail. I don't have names yet, so if anyone thinks of something good, let me know! Also, they are in little bowls in the pictures because their tanks were not set up when I took the pictures (I was impatient). Don't worry they are in filtered tanks now, but can't take pictures because my camera's batteries are charging.
Now, about the names, I wanted something celestial related for the black one, like named after a star, a galaxy, or a nebula (no planets please!). The black one is very shy, and very delicate acting. The blue one I have been thinking about naming Peacock (but still not sure about naming him that), because he has such bright colors and he is very cocky! He flares at everything and always has his fins on display.

the black and red is AWESOME! try google for celestial names. Here's some I found that I thought were cool:
Dutch:
Zonje = "little sun"
Gaelic:
Luan: "The moon"
Lunasa "August, the month of the moon"
Greek:
Hester "Evening star"
Italian:
Lunetta "Little moon"
I only got halfway down this page, but there's some pretty names it you look

Nice! That black and red one is especially striking. We've usually just got the common red and blue ones, very rare do my LFSs get the cool ones. *Pout*
The first thing that popped into my head was Orion for the black one. For the blue one, when you said it was always preening and posturing, I thought of Mavros from Jacqueline Carey's books (Kushie's Justice, etc). That character is a beautiful man and definitely knows it. Sounds just like you're betta boy.

I like the name Orion! I can't believe I didn't think of that! And I've never read the book, so I wouldn't know, but there are a few books I have read that have characters like that.
So now his name is Orion! The blue one still doesn't have a name yet, maybe something will come up...
