right so im looking into buying a new car and am integied by the VW TDI's (Turbo Diesel) that are out specifically there is a 2002 Jetta TDI that i can get for about $11,000ish. now my mane concern about it is the repair cost and how frequently it might break down. also general impression of the car would help from any one who has one.

yes i know this a fish tank forum but still thought i would ask.

VW's hat their second owner. How many miles are on the car? if it's between 100-150 you'll be in the main repair stage. In that area is typically belts need to be changed, glow pulgs, etc. However the TDI's are the best when it comes to reliabality, and maintence. I would look into how expensive it is to get parts for the car in your area, or find a good mechanic that specializes in VW's. If it is an automatic, you'll have issues with the clutches, which means it will need to be looked at. If it's a manual, the stock clutch should last your 200k however it can be replaced.

it has about 50K on it and looks like it was used as car for the guy who owns the VW and as a fleet car for the dealership for a while. it has amazingly car fax report actually vary detailed because it was basically serviced at the same place. now there was one accident in 2004 in when i think it was completely repaired but i think this is the mane reason it is relatively cheap. before and sense then it was taken care of from what i can tell and it is an automatic. though i am looking at a manual with 80K on it (that one is a 2006) i'm also looking at other cars and exploring all my options because this is the first time i've ever bought a car and want one that will last me a while. my first car (the one i have now) was given to me it's a 94 nissan sentra that lived in Maine for most of it's life great car gets like 33mpg on the highway when it's running well. but it's getting to the point in which i need a new car.
