 I bought an as is eheim 2026 off Ebay for $55 after shipping.
The filter runs, but the top housing is filling with water and causing a wet mess on the floor.

The red safety catch is broken and not attached to the filter. Not sure where this piece connects, and if being removed would contribute to the leakage.

Is there any way to test what seal needs replaced? I really do not have the money to replace all the seals in the filter.

From my google search, it sounds like maybe the priming o-ring is bad. Any one have any experience with a bad o-ring?

I am wishing that I had waited for a good deal on a Classic to come around, simpler design, less to go wrong.

Im not experienced with that particular filter but you should have a main lid O-ring on the inside of the lid. Take it out rub it with a thin coat of vasoline and place it back in reversed so there is tension. Do this to all the little o-rings as well be careful not to use anything sharp or nick the o-ring or grove where they sit. just use your hands only and if you see any nicks or tears that is probubly the cause. To test it off the aquarium use a bucket outside or in the sink or just fill it with water turn the vales off and turn it upside down. Also look up the parts schematic to make sure you have all the parts or call Eheim and ask for help.

Sometimes the O rings just need to be re-lubricated w/silicone (food grade) for it to regain the seal. I would try it first. GL. Whoops, Gunner got here 1st. and answered your question.

Thanks, I will try your suggestions.
Not sure what food grade silicone is, or where to buy it.
I do have vasolie if that is safe to use.

Wow, I thought Eheim would at least show a drawing of the O-rings placement but they say they use gaskets which are usually flat. If flat you can always use the original to trace a pattern from generic sheet gasket available at any auto parts store.

So Star_Rider, is this filter pretty much exactly like the clone you use, sure looks the same? I wonder if the parts are interchangeable.

there was a post here a while back about those filters leaking and there is a hidden o ring that you have to take apart the motor housing and remove the primer button to get to that seal and it was available for a web site only and ehemim will not sell you that seal you have to send it in for repair or order that seal from that web site and do it your self. seems like a lot of work to do it. maybe someone else will remember that post. i think it was also listed on monster fish web site the info.
