My Aunt has a large inground pond with 3 large koi. Last year my Aunt saw some very little orange fish in the pond. We believe they were baby koi. The only other fish in the pond are a type of minnow. The minnows have a silver body with orange or red fins. So they weren't minnows. They didn't make it through the winter so I was wondering how would I go about catching any future baby koi if we see anymore. If we manage to catch a few I plan on using an extra tank I have as a grow out tank. As far as I know there aren't any baby koi as of yet. I'm just curious to know how we'd be able to catch them.

You could try corralling them with a seine. Once you have all the fish in a small area of the pond, just get a big net to throw the big guys over into the open part of the pond, then scoop out the babies. Be careful of the big fish jumping over the seine though. They could hurt themselves or you if they are really large and the pond is big enough that you have to get in to seine it.

In the pond I set up for my parents I use a Yellow Perch to catch the babies! Seriously go to a bait and tackle store and buy a minnow trap.

A couple of nets makes for easy removal.

i agree on a minnow trap or you could use a baitfish cast net if you don't have lots of ptants or big rock to get in your way

It can be difficult because baby carp are quite coy.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. If my aunt see any baby koi then I'll make a minnow trap and hope for the best.
