Hello all - Can an oto be kept alone, or should they be kept in groups? Is a 12 gallon tank too small? And lastly, can you keep mystery snails (briggs) in with otos, or will the oto suck on the snail shells? I'm trying to make decisions on what fish to obtain after my new 12 gallon tank cycles. Thanks!

otos should be kept in groups and they really do bestin a well-established tank as they eat algae. They can be kept with snails, but i would add them after you have had the tank running for some time

I have a 46 gallon and 3 oto's. two of them are always together and the other one is a loner. In fact, I hadn't even seen it for more than a month until last night. I would say for a twelve gallon, get at least two or three. You are going to have to supplement their diet with veggies anyways after they go beserk on the algae and clean it up. I don't know about the snails.

I have a single oto left over from a group I used to have in my 30. I rarely see him...a group will make them feel much more comfortable.
