Can someone tell me what this is and what it is used for?

A power head is a water pump. Can be used to run a filter, or for water circulation. In a marine tank the fish and corals are used to living with water flow as there is when the tide in the ocean goes in and out. So ideally one would try to make the water flow in one direction part of the time and then in another direction the rest of the time. But must be carefull not to have too much or to have a power head blowing too directly closely to a coral or can damage it. Some corals like more flow than others so must research how much flow the corals you want need.

ah! ok so water movement is good. I don't have a powerhead but can you tell me if what i have is sufficient. I have a 37g ViaAqua tank w/ a fluval 304 filter. On one end of the tank is it inlet for the filter and on the other end is the outlet. Connected to the outlet is a directional thing (sorry don't know what its called) which shoots the water out. Hope this is enough info, if not maybe i can try to post a picture.

Sure that is great for now. this may be all you need to create flow for your tank.

That's what the PM was about. I would love to order stuff off the internet but the issue is, i can't really find stuff to spend $75-175 worth of stuff to get free shipping and i was wondering if you would like to get some stuff when i get some stuff that way we could get to what we want all in one order. Like i'm gonna get some LR within the next week and if you want you could order with me.
I have the money i just don't find enough stuff to get so putting the orders together would be great.
