I wasn't sure what to title it, i'm not entirly sure its a problem.

here goes.

In my tank it has

4 blue acaras (2 males 2 females)
mics dithers (Platies, danios etc.)
2 Bronze corydoras

My Alpha male (In previous thread) has paired with the alpha female. They both seem like they want to spawn. But become distracted and never end up courting each other. Both male and female always end up chasing something out of their territory, most often than not their competition (the other acara's). Would perhaps removing the other 2 blue acaras aid in them spawning? or are they a good "buffer" to help the 2 stay paired?

When I first had them, both females tried and thought they were paired with the alpha male. They both laid eggs and he never chose which female he wanted to go with, he has seem to have chosen now. But would it be a good idea to remove the other acara's? I would like to see them spawn and have many fry.

I'm going through the same situation with some Nics. I plan to move the pair I want to breed to a 55g once I get it setup.

I'm really not sure.... I figure it's worth a try. I will probably put 6-8 Tiger Barbs as dithers with them so that the female won't get run to death.

well I might keep them a little longer together until they start looking like something will happen.

I will leave dithers in there I guess. But do you think I should remove the bottom dwellers?

I'm just not sure about the bottom feeders. I guess it depends on how well the parents can protect. I think Plecos are less likely to go after fry. Many loaches and catfish on the other hand will go after them if they get the chance.

Yeah I have seen my cory's go at eggs before. Today I Noticed that the alpha male was being overtaken by the 2nd male (growth wise) He is longer but not as "manly" as the alpha male, yet. Now if the 2nd male becomes bigger and more dominate, what are the chances of the female switching partners? or is the female so caught up in chasing 1 male, she fails to spot the other male?

hope this is not too confusing.
