Dioscus don't "have" to live in high temp tanks if you mean 86-90 degrees. I'm always shocked at how high people keep Discus tanks because they "heard they need high temps". Fishbase.org said 77-86 degrees is their range if I remember right.

They need a Min of 84 IMO 85 is GREAT for them!!!!

You have your opinion and I base mine on experience and fishbase.org. Not going to debate this as everyone's going to do what they're going to do anyway.

I have mine at 85. At 82 I got Ich (I presume Ich is much more susceptible at temps lower than that) so I treated at 86.

But a bout of brown algae bloom along with white worms/planaria & tiny little white mites on the glass still came about at 86. still trying to get rid of them tho daily w/c has dramatically dropped their presence but still there.

I had 6 baby BN's & 4 baby albino corys die between 82-86 - so I guess babies can't survive the higher temps? Unless they died of some disease I can not figure out.

thx

Hey Ray,
I know you're having some health and tank issues with the discus and you need to get those worked out before adding anything else to the tank. When you're ready for otos and albino cories, I've kept them both successfully with my discus at a steady 86F without issue. My albino cories are a few years old, the oldest ones I have. Very hardy cory!

I have has Otos in my 86F degrees discus tank.
Never tried any albino corys though.

There are a few cory species that are better adapted to warmer temps
like Adolphi, and Pandas, and I believe Sterbai. (please double check)

What the fish can tolorate, and what is reccommended for them are two different things. The larger the discus is, the lower the temp it will be ok in. Juveniles are reccommended to be kept at about 86-88F While adults can be kept in temps of 84 or so.

And we didnt "hear" that discus need warm temps...
We do reseaerch before we invest money into something such as this.
Oh, and just a side note, 77-86 degrees is pretty warm for a tropical tank..
most af my non discus tanks were set at about 76F..

anyway, Just my "opinion" and I wouldnt want to argue with those all knowing folks at fishbase, as I am sure they know more than all of us combined..

A definite no on the pandas Zig. I've had success keeping false juli, albinos and sterbai with the discus.
