have been having bad rat infestation,.. they have outwitted all traps except for babies and juvies,..,
have eliminated most all of food sources,.. and now they go swimming in my tanks and i have over the last few days lost 4 adult mollies and many juvies and fry,.. found that they came out behind where filters are and dragged out my plants on the way,.. had this happen a few years ago,.. but this bunch is determined,..
i just put the plastic piece that goes on glass top a cut to fit, but they can and will chew that in no time,..

i can't poison for house cat outside cats and outside dogs,. and don't want poison in tanks?
called so called pros and they want to use glue traps,.. sorry but those don't work neither do traps as they know what they are and how to trip them they also tell young-ins to stick their heads in and then adults get the bait,.. also when i empty the babies from the traps in the middle of the night the adults jump into the trash can and steal the dead babies to feed on them,..

can't and wont shoot them,.. nothing else works,.. as rat are very very smart,.. they even last winter killed my rabbits in the shed to feed on them,.. this is crazy i have had it bad before but this time I'm getting really p**ed,... my nicest Dalmatian Mollie,.. and many fry,.. whats next the rest of the tanks? is there any way to electrocute them in the tank without killing the fish? with electricity that is,..

really out of options here
any poison that wont kill second hand ie dogs or cats or residue for fish?

Have you tried live catch traps ?

try putting your traps down and when you bait the traps put a little white gravy or something (we use that for the mice) with some rat poison mixed with it so if they get by the trap and get the bait they go a dose of poison just through the unused mix out dont get it mixed up with regular food!!!!

I know it's illegal to shoot politicians but I. . . . . Oh wait, wrong rats.

Any chance you can erect a nesting box to attract barn owls? Have you considered a trap like a minnow trap (a one way wire trap)? You really need to find their source and exam the house for any tiny entrance places. Any hole large enough for the head is large enough fro them to get the body through. Like sink drains or floor drains etc.

eek theyre eating their own babies from the trash?

Is getting/borrowing someones cat possible as they're good rodent chasers. Same goes for terriers.

In may experience the nest approching is to find the "paths" under cupboards and along walls. Get a good quality break-neck manual trap and bait it with peanut butter--if you put it out of the way larger pets etc won't get to them. Leave it there, not moved or touched, and after 2-3 days you will start getting them.

also look for grease marks- on walls/corners/etc cuz rats very greasy and you can see where they're exiting and entering houses/rooms

I saw that on exterminator tv show from that crazy haired dude on A+E I'm not sure if it was TLC or A+E cool show!

Where there are rats, snakes are sure to follow. That may be your best solution, unfortunately.

i know all about traps and bait i have tried them all,
as for the entrance can't do nothing short of lifting the house and putting a basement under it,.. it over 100 years old and half dirt basement and half sitting on stone blocks,.. all they have to do is duck under outside of house and they are in,..

live traps what am i going to do with tons of live rats?
not feasable

cats out outside one kill juviniles and adults chase my 5 cats here and the dogs don't mess with them as the adults are 2-3 pounders plus,.. and very mean,.. they babies even chase my indoor cats they are very agressive,..
son is alergic to them (minor) because of their easy access,.. after a while we are going to build a new house but till then i'm stuck with these B*stards,.. they even open up my coubord doors for a snack,.. there is nothing so far to stop them,..

really getting worried about contact (teeth) with my kids,.. as they are getting very nasty,.. i getting real close to torching the place,.. buti know they will make it out before they get harmed,..

anyone have a hungry snake i can borrow for the summer till cold weather,.. i have really thought of buying one just to let it loose till winter,..

even though of putting a heater around for it to be in basement or attick,..
