Am I "trimming my pennywort right?

Well, some of my pennywort gets a little big and then the stem gets all mushy and i pull it off, and then there are roots above that and then I plant that. Is that how pennywort trims itself? or am i doing something wrong?

probably lack of light for the lower section of the plants is all and as long as it keeps growing i don't see much of a problem but i could be wrong.
