so i only know a couple of cool water fish but i have always tropical fish and never anything without a filter nor a heater. and in my situation i cant have anymore tanks that need any electricity because my parents bill has went way up. :jaw:so anyways i am getting all different sized tanks soon im pretty sure 10-20-and maybe another 20 or 30 gal, so i need help picking out some pretty fish that dont need that much attention and are pretty hardy. at the most i could only have 1 filter in 1 of the tanks.:irked:

Red Cherry shrimp should do Ok at room temp with an air pump driven sponge filter. A small air pump is a couple watts-my dual outlet Whisper 800 is only 5 watts.

Red Clouds would do OK in a large enough tank, but still need filtration. HOB filters actually consume very little power....my Whisper 40 is 7 watts. It's the heaters and lights that use the most.

At that rate, it's not worth it to keep fish without filtration.

As a side note, do the math on your tanks and see how much everything uses. Estimate 50% for the heaters, tho they probably run way less than that. Figure the lighting as 50% for 12 hours on, 34% for 8 hours on, etc... You may find your lighting takes more kwh than the heaters. Than you can figure out how many kwh per day you use and how much it actually costs to have fishies.

That will help you determine whether it's really the tanks that are the problem, vs that it's summer & we're running the Air conditioning...

Zebra Danios, White Clouds, Black Skirt Tetras. Bloodfin Tetras in any of the tanks listed, Buenos Aires Tetras in the 20-30 gal.

You can look into Native American fish, most do not need heaters. Auqua bid has a good selection.

I have rainbow darters and least killifish. (not in the same tank)

Paradise fish don't need heaters.
Bettas don't have to have a filter but they are tropical so the temp needs to be kept around 78.

Thats crazy. no electrcity? tha means no filter either... >.<

i know. and now this is the part that really sucks is that im getting a veiled chameleon very soon but i havent talked to my mom about it yet. so its either i get to keep my other 2 pygmy leaf chameleons or i have to give them to a friend or my worst fear is selling them. but who knows maybe i could start paying my part of the bill and keep the life in my life alive. anyways besides off topic stuff. i think i might take my old ten gallon and put everything thats in there into the 20 and put a betta in the 10. and im thinking about the black skirt tetras in the other 20."and maybe i could be sneaky with a low voltage heater"...maybe

wait i have a red claw crab and a fiddler crab but they are in 2 different tanks and plus i have heaters for them. but maybe i could have a crab tank? do crabs really require a heater?
