Just a few days ago I was so excited about my new tank which is supposed to be delivered on the 23rd (omg that's technically today!). I'm getting ready for the big change by buying new gravel and browsing area pet stores.

Now I'm not so sure if I should consider transferring my betta, shrimp, and plants to the new Eclipse system 12. A gross layer of brown (diatom?) algae has settled on my previously virgin white gravel. The poor shrimp eat and eat at the algae but they do not make a big impact.

I do not want to contaminate my new tank with this algae. Should I wait a bit and hope the algae goes away or what? I really do not have the space or desire for plecos/CAE/SAE/etc. I plan on adding corydoras eventually, do they like to munch on the stuff? Luckily my new gravel is a brownish mixture, so even if I do have a slight brown algae problem, it will not be as noticeable :).

I have to second that. They are really cute little fish and stay very small. They do an AMAZING job on alage for their tiny size.
