Hi.
I have a aquaclear filter also. I do like the AquaClear design because of the way water goes thru it. It permits to put your own filter media in the order that you want. Kinda like canister's filters does but at a more affordable price.
But i think they could of made the filter a little better if they would of made the intake side a little higher then it is. The way it is made now it doesn't take much resistance for the water to over flow.
On eachside of the basket they put some holes, probably wanting to make the basket extraction easier but water goes thru there bypassing the filter media.
What i did is i took a piece of plastic, like the one they use to put pastry in at the grocery store, and cut a piece to the size i needed.
I put the piece of plastic and slided it down next to the basket on the intake side. The plastic goes from the bottom to the top of the basket. That way all the water that is pumped goes thru the media filter exept just a little goes back out in the aquarium from the intake side but not as much as water that used to go directly into the basket from the top.
Is this modification a good idea or is there a reason why they made the filter that way?
