I worked out a deal with the guys at Pet Planet (LFS) when I saw these discus. I traded my brand new Mag 18 pump (too powerful for my aquarium) for 2 of the spotted guys. I then went back 2 days later and picked up the 3rd.

With my little knowledge of discus, these do not look stunted at all. You might be able to see how small the eyes are compared to the red one (the red one is from Mark, another hobbyist).

With this batch, I am going to "train" them to eat aggressively. I think that the main reason some of my discus are stunted is due to being outcompeted at feeding time, so hopefully, this will work. I guess I will find out in a year.

Nice looking red....

I actually have 2 more reds that are about 5 inches across (not stunted at all). This red is about 3.5 inches and from the same batch. Hopefully he will grow.

nice! what are the spotted ones called

I would call them Red Dragons (http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.cgi?fwdiscus&1252540806) or Checkerboard Pigeons (http://www.slipperylittlesuckers.com.my/cutenews/data/upimages/3_DSCF2616_26_1_1.jpg)

They like to give them fancy names for marketing :grinno:

I was planning on keeping them in the 10 gallon for a week or so, but now they are scarfing down everything....worms don't even reach the bottom. Plus, they now recognize me as the food source. I may move them to the big tank to see how they compete for food.

If you don't mind my suggestion.

keep them in the 10 for a week or two longer.
keep an eye on them especially if there are inhabitants in the main tank.

Clay I feed my fish several times threwout the day. Some eat like pigs everytime while others just graze. Seems like the more I feed the More they grow. About a month or two ago I upped the feeding's and they have hit a growth spurt!!!!!!!!!

Good luck - they look nice man,
