Here is a place for AC members to post pics of their tattoos. I would love see some of the ink that other members have. So get to posting those tat pics!

I personally have 3 and am anxious to get a few more. I will start with 2 of mine (3rd is on my back and I cannot take that pic by myself!)

First is my tribal rose on my chest (right side); I hope to get it cleaned up a bit and get the other side done soon. :grinyes:

Second is my angel fish - not quite what I had expected, but I still love it! (it is on my leg/calf)

Its a dragon and a phoenix, symbolic because of a childhood story involving my godfather and his dragon tattoo and my name is really phoenix :)

I want to get a tattoo someday, but I'll have to be out of the house first. I want to get a tattoo of the Berlin Archaeopteryx specimen on the back of my shoulder. I want it too look like the fossil is embedded in my skin.

I don't really wanna share a pic of mine cuz the artist messed it up and I am currently saving money and looking for the right artist to fix it and also doing a few more drawings of it to make sure I get what I want. I will share the drawing that I did and the story.

I got this fish, a bichir, that I got for free because he was missing a pectoral fin and was so small that all of the others would have out eaten him. Anyway, he kept my sanity while I was doing college work and working 40hrs a week. I named him Jormungandr after a Norse Sea Serpent who grew so big that he wrapped around the earth and swallowed his tail.

Jormun is wrapped around my upper calf. There is going to be much more shading and possibly some color, but this was that first drawing.

that is only about half of them. They all have meaning, but I don't really put alot of weight on the imagery. I think of tattoos as more of a marker/timeline. I know where i was and what was happening in life when I chose each of them. I have two main artists I go to, one in FL, one in Philly. I see each at least once a year. I have a few friends I have gotten tattoos from as well.

Located on my calf: My old school sailor jerry - esque breast cancer ribbon for my sister. The ribbon definately needs touched up. It was done by a different artist and I wasn't extremely happy with it. I got the stuff around the ribbon done up in Chicago on what would have been her 24st Bday. Absolutely love the job he did.

I hear yas on wanting more just waiting on the moolahs for it. My calf someday will be finished with a collection of girlie Sailor Jerry themed tattoos. Things like swallows, roses, cherries, etc. I would love a full sleeve on my left arm, but I am undecided on what direction to go with it. I already have my "geeky love/hate" wrist tattoo and I would like to keep them. I would love to do something with like nature vs. technology and use more emoticons and ASCII art rendered images . Something like maybe playing off of emoticon roses

I think I read that a snake swallowing its tail is an old symbol of infinity. I've seen some old drawings of medieval type dragons eating their tails too.

I want to get some flowers and vines to cover up my stretch marks, and we had this old dog that I had since childhood that died when I was in the hospital so I didn't get to say goodbye... her name was Rose and I wanted to get a rose wrapped around her favorite dog treat on my ankle. Also thinking of getting hair shears down the back of my calf in memory of my good friend I met in beauty school who died recently.

The Tat on my chest goes down a little ways and it encompassed a few stretch marks and that was the most painful spot! :jaw-dropping:

the skull is for my daughters father. i have yet to get it finished. he passed away in 2004 and then i got this for him. eventually it will be surrounded in flowers and the banner will say 'to oneself be true' or something like that. the little grasshopper i got when my daughter was born. it has her name underneath.

i did all these tats myself. i was teaching myself to tattoo. i had too many kids though and i don't have time anymore to work on it. i'm patiently waiting for them to grow(no rush!!) enough to let me get back to the other things i want to accomplish.

I don't have the actual tatoo, but my sister is getting one right when she turns 18. It's a butterfly with the number 21 on it. In the design, the letters CDS can be made out. A few years ago, her best friend Carly Stowell (CDS) died right before their basketball tournement together. She was 14. 21 was her basketball number. A butterfly was her "sign", everyone always compared her to a butterfly and it was always something she carried with her. It's pretty deep stuff, just thought I'd share. I'll definitely post a picture of the design later today.

Thanks. The tattoos I have right now... the bird flying over my heart has a similar meaning to me as the lotus has... like being of the earth but "blossoming" or dwelling in a level beyond it also.... I got it in a rough part of my life, struggling with anorexia and an abusive boyfriend. Just kind of reminded me to keep my head level... didn't really work but the meaning is there.

Then the candy canes, like I said, are because I was born on christmas. I need to get them touched up though, some of the ink shed when it was healing I think.

I saw a great sailor jerry flash pic of a basket of roses with a banner to put a name or dates on it. Thought about doing that for my mom who is deceased. Nice sentiment LBF. You only get one mom.........

Mine totally follow this. I got most of them because I like dragons and obscure symbols. But they all mark a point in time that was significant to me. I won't go into the stories here 'cause there's a few of 'em and some long ones. But if you want to know just ask. :headbang2:

I have four, but they're all of the same thing. I have cicada wings on the inside and outside of both ankles... I had them done when I was 19, and they're kind of a mixed metaphor. First was the obvious reference to Hermes, the greek messenger god...mostly I was referencing his ties to travel and knowledge...I did a lot of traveling solo right after high school, hitching around, I've always been very curious to learn about everything and his reference touches on the gypsy information seeker/sharer in me as well as they trickster/oration skills that kept me safe in troublesome situations. The Cicada reference is to the 13-year magicicada species...they spend years developing underground, then there's a massive emergence for feeding, breeding, just a total insect party...then they all die off, leaving the eggs to spend the next 13 years developing again... This part was a reminder to myself that life goes in cycles and that the downtime is a necessary part of that cycle, since I'd spent so much time on the road and was about to settle down again. A year after that I had my first major bipolar episode, so the cyclic up and down symbolism has taken on more meaning as time has gone on... Someday I want another tat, but I haven't figured out the what or where yet, other than I want to use the same artist. I fell in love with his use of shading and dainty lines, I searched long and hard for an artist that could pull off my vision...each tat's only 3" tall, 1.5" at the widest point.

It was designed by tolkien to go on his first ever released book, the first edition of the Hobbit.

My artist is in Nashville, he's actually the lead singer of my favorite band. :) The story behind the tattoo includes some somg lyrics, both from that band and others.

I'm planning on having him touch that one up, and get another one. The next one will be an arm band, below my right elbow. My husband is a composer, and he wrote a song for me back when we started dating (then he wrote lyrics and recorded it with some friends, we danced to it at our wedding :) ). So the band will be some of the music from that song.

check this out for a geeky tattoo, if you get the reference. a lot of people think its a happy cat riding a giant chicken. i had one of my best friends from high school do it.
as for fish related ones, i plan on getting a nautilus shell done eventually. i just need to figure out where to put it and find someone who can do as intricate of a design as i want. it would symbolize the perfection of nature, golden ratio, and evolution (bio major).

LOL.. I didn't pick at anything. I took a buddy with me and he said he wanted to slap the artist for how deep he was digging into my skin with the gun.. I had no idea of course. It ended up scabbing VERY badly. My second one, nary a scab through the entire healing process.

juice, don't be scared..... bjust make sure you get references and go to a olace others have gone to that you know..... some artists do go a little deep, but some are pretty good....

My first one went exactly like that, I had no idea at the time, and did not until years later. Now I debate trying to get it removed, not because I do not like the tattoo, but because the guy did such a poor job of it and it is raised like a scar.

Honestly, I've done some things, over and over and I know I shouldnt have...at the time they made me feel better, but in the end, they tore me down lower than before. The same things that give me that fix in the present, end up ripping me down in the future.
