Has anyone used these products?
1) "real ocean salt water" in a 5 gallon jug - this is available at my local PetCo and was wondering if it had any value
2) "live sand" in a 10 lb bag - also at local PetCo wondering if it would be good to use when I start my first SW tank after Christmas?

Also
1) my LFS has a great MicroReef with 1 Plecula Clown in a Eclipse 6 Gal. - What do you think... how well will this work in the long run?
2) Just bought "Marine Aquarium 2" Screen Saver... really great! Highly recommended.

TIA for reading my ramblings!

I have not used the jug of salt water, is this premixed? may not be a bad idea if you are going to do a small tank. It would beat buying an R/O unit.

I was informed that the live sand from the LFS is not very live. I asked my LFS what the shelf life was on it, and they looked at me like I was stupid

small tanks to me are harder to keep the paramiters right.

I was wondering about a screen saver that you can get for you DVD player for you TV. It is supposed to look like an aquarium. Is this the one you are talking about?

They say the Jug of water is pulled directly from the ocean... sent through their filtration system and bottled for sale.

I was thinking trying a 5Gal Eclipse with 1 or 2 small fish... based on any feedback I get from the forum. If so I think the bottled SW may be the way to go. I do plan to setup a 55Gal SW in the near future... then the RO may make more sense.

Good point on the "live sand" shelf life!

Nope... actually the one I'm talking about is for your PC. Looks really great! I've been wondering about the DVD/TV one too. Perhaps someone here has tried that one?

Thanks!

a friend of mine told me that the DVD screen saver is really cool, but this friend is easily amused.

Saw that SW at PetCo last week. I have to say--way, way pricy. For that money, you can buy a bucket of salt and an RO unit with the same money in 6 months, for a 10 gallon tank. Not saying it's not a good product, just not where I want to spend my money.

Also--for a first SW tank, I would not go any smaller than a 30. The small tanks are notoriously difficult to stabilize. They require daily attention--easy in the store, harder at home.
