I have a nice 5 gallon fish tank....or maybe it's a reptile thing. I don't know. Anyway, neons are really cool. I want to put 300 in there and the dealer said he would toss in some Angelicus Catfish...which are cool too! And then I figured I would need a decent filter, so I figure I can pump the water out with a big Eheim unit...though a series of coffee filters....and then into a 100 gallon sump...with an Iwaki return pump in there...something like 1200gph give or take.
My question is:
Should I use three 200 watt heaters or four?
Oh...and can I just use table salt in the water??
:p

Suggest you use one 50watt heater. As for filters, try a Aqua Clear Mini or Marielnd Bio-Wheel 125. The AC is good for up to a 20g tank and the Bio-Wheel is good for up to 20g tank. As for as 300 neons in a 5g tank there won't be any room for them to swim. Try about 10 to 15 of these. And this my even be to many. As for as the sump and a 1200 gph pump its way overkill. Hope this helps out. FYI, three 200watt heaters would be good for 150 to 200g's, and a pump that pumps around 1200gph, I run a 1800gph on a 125g tank. Gives you an idea of what I mean by overkill. If you more Neons try getting something like a 20g tank. Won't be much more for filters and a heater for that size.

Mmmmm i think maybe the 5 gallon tank was a typo. Maybe 50? 500?
If not, then..... WEIRD!
i think it might be a joke thread?...

Well if its a joke I'll second guess giving this person advice next time. If it's a typo, then its still overkill for a 50g and underkill for a 500g.

I think either 50 or 500 was the correct number. Probably 50 as 50's are often used for reptiles. I only guess this judging by the heater and filter size.
As for the neons, I would scale that down to at the very most, 50 fish, 35-40 would be better. (The inch per gallon rule applies to neons... small bodied tetras...).
I would not get the catfish... Catfish, in general, are predetory. Angelicus get to be good sized. They can and will eat the neons.
I would get maybe 3 oto cats, and 4-5 cory cats instead.

<--------smells a troll.
...Even those who have never seen a 5 gallon tank would know that 300 neons wouldnt work in such a small tank. Grow up.
Judging from the laughing face at the end of the post I would have to hazard a guess at a joke.

Even if it was a joke, clearly this person has no real interesting in fishkeeping and is only here to stir things up. So sad....:o

It wasn't a typo...as the thread title also has 5 gallons listed. So yes, this is a joke thread.
