Moved into our new house, and got the fish room running. My 6yr old son decided to take some pics tonight so I could share them with my "fish friends". That's you guys, so here are some of his pics...

Wow! So, did you buy these tanks used from a fish store? Will you use gravel in the tanks? How many tanks do you have? Is this setup mostly geared toward breeding?

Can you tell I'm intrigued???

SayersWeb,

The tanks came out of a petsmart when they remodeled. I didn't get them directly from petsmart though. I bought 14 of them on ebay for $300. That's just under $21.50 each. These tanks are for growout. All of the breeding takes place in other tanks, except for my 2 breeding pairs of cons. They are producing feeders like crazy for me. No substrate, it's easier to vacuum the bottom. The plumbing runs into a 5 gallon bucket that is half filled with bioballs, and covered by about 6 inches of poly fiber. I buy the pillow stuffing poly fiber at walmart. It's only $1 a bag. The bucket drains into a 30 gallon aquarium. A 1500 GPH pond pump returns the water to the tanks.

In addition to the tanks pictured, I also have 3 55's, 3 30's, 2 120's, and 3 10's.

I live in north central KS, and the fish stores around here have very limited cichlid stock, so I am getting different species and breeding them with about 15 small town mom and pop lfs purchasing juvie fish.

My wife and I just bought our house the week before thanksgiving and we both had requirements for the new house. Her's being main floor laundry, and mine a finished basement with at least one unfinished room for fish. We both got our requirements and them some.

Great deal on those tanks!! I took over the unfinished portion of my basement to build my music studio, so my tanks don't get a nice dedicated room like you have.

Have you checked Tangled Up In Cichlids (http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/) for breeding stock? You can get some really nice (and more expensive) varieties to spawn.
