Can I put a 36watt Compact Fluorescent bulb in a kit that was intended for 55wCF bulb??? Is there any difference in the ballast???

I went to www.ahsupply.com and added up everything for a 2x55 kit and it comes up to $102.97 and that does not include the hood. The 4x55w kit is 124.99 with out bulbs

I found a 4x55w Power Compact light on ebay for $79.99 (complete hood) It comes with 4 bulbs (2-10000k and 2-Actinic). I don’t think I need the Actinic or the 10000k but I can sell those later. I have two 36watt Compact Fluorescent bulbs that I could use in one side of the hood if they will work. I will eventually put 55’s all way around but I would like to use the 36watts until they burn out.

I would not run bulbs not manufactured for the ballast. Running higher wattage bulbs than the ballast will reduce the length of the bulb life, but going the other way could blow out the bulbs.

Actually AHsupply uses the same fulham ballast and endcaps for both the 55 and 36 watt kits. The reflectors are longer however, and thats the reason for the difference in price.
