Strange Noises

my filter is making a strange rattling noise from the impeller and motor area. i have cleaned the impeller, all the assembly parts, and inside the filter and still the noise. everything fits into place like it is supposed to so i am at a loss for words?????
any help would be appreciated

Take a careful look at the impeller shaft and magnet. Sometimes the shaft over time can develop a slight bend in it. This can be caused by a piece of sand/gravel/gunk wedging itself where it shouldn't be. A more serious problem is when the magnetic motor develops an imbalance in the field it produces (10 year old Magnum 350 did this to me).

So generally the first step is to replace the shaft and magnet and hope it fixes it. If the motor is gone you'll have to buy a new HOB or put it on a tank in the garage like me where the noise doesn't bother you.

What brand and model is it. I know older Emperors rattle when brand new or well cleaned. They take about a week to build up ook which quiets them back down.

had it as a back up filter in the garage and my Aqua clear went out and had to put something on besides buyin a brand new one and yesterday i gt it out and cleaned the hell out of it before i put it on my 75 gal in the house
