ok, new aquaclear 200 filter. about a month old. i go home for the holidays, come back a week later, and the AC200 is making this horrible gouging death noise. what's wrong with this thing? i shut it down, cleaned it all out, and the gouging death noise remains. i was just telling my father that i liked the filter and had no problems with it, because he was complaining that his (about a year old now) rattles constantly at a low but annoying volume.

i think i might stop endorsing these filters to everyone.

is it vibrating something ?, my air pumps rub against the wall somtimes and is annoying

Probably a piece of gravel in the impeller assemply. Take the impeller out and see if there is any debris in it's well. Also, ensure none of the fins on the impeller are damaged.

yea, i took it apart and cleaned it. it seems to have stopped today and is running smoothly, although last night was unbearable.

Touch the lid. Mine sometimes makes a small rattling noise, but if I lay my cord for the lights across the corner of the lid it goes away.

My 500 made that same deathlike scraping grinding noise about a month or so ago for about 12 hours...never did find out what it was. I figured maybe a peice of gravel that eventually got ground up or worked its way out of the system.
