Are there any plants that Ramshorns won't eat? I've moved some plants to other tanks, but they seem to be eating everything! I feed them vegies but they have already devoured my water lettuce and watersprite and now thier working on the frogbit. I love my planted tanks, and I loves my snails! Help!:help:

i have tons of ramshorns in my planted tank with a variety of different stem plants, swords, anubias, vals, etc. i very rarely see holes in my plants.

is it normal for ramshorns to eat plants?

I'm not sure if it's normal? I've only had them a few weeks and the tanks their in the plants are being chomped on. I give them fresh vegies everyday so it can't be that their underfed?

They damage my plants as well, but not because they're eating them, it's their egg sacks that take their toll on my plants. However the ones in my tank prefer driftwood above all else and that's fine with me. I have two puffers that I feed the multitude of snail offspring to, so I just put up with the occasional tattered plant.

I have been having some nutrient problems in my planted tank and have found that my snails (ramshorn and MTS) just eat the part of the plant that's dead or dying. They leave all healthy plants alone. I have read many sources that say ramshorn snails do not eat healthy plants. Perhaps your plants are missing some sort of nutrient or light requirement causing them to not be as healthy?

I'll check my water in that tank. The lighting seems to be ok. I leave them on all day so the plants get enough light.
Thanks:)

hmmm, i've never really had any problems with my rams, they definitely do it the dying parts, but not the healthy parts...

I'm assuming by all day you dont mean 24/7? Cause even plants need rest...

Never seen a ramhorn go after a healthy plant.

No not 24/7:) The frogbit has holes in it and the water lettuce is gone? If they didn't eat it would guppies have eaten it?

set up a video cam on your tank to catch the culprit(s) when you're not there to watch, lol.
