Need to disinfect nets/buckets/etc after moving an
SAE with Columnaris to a hospital tank. I also have
a small tank with shrimp and snails and do not want
to harm them introducing any toxins from the
disinfected nets. These would be rinsed well but I
would still as a precaution like to use a disinfectant
that is the safest to use around my shrimp/snails.

I've seen vinegar suggested, is that a good choice?
Also potassium permanganate is supposed to be
great but how safe is it to use around inverts?

Also in terms of rinsing off the cleaned items, should
I do a cold soak and super rinse or what?

Thanks!!!

Permanganate is my first choice as a net dip. For hard surfaces like buckets use plain old salt. Throw a double handful in the bucket and add just enough water to make a thick paste. Smear it over all surfaces and let it sit 10 mins. Rinse well

hmmm...never heard of salt before...very interesting.

i always use bleach because it is what i have laying around the house. i pour 4 ounces into two gallons of water, let sit for a while, stir a few times. rinse. rinse. rinse. soak in declorinator. rinse. rinse. rinse. air dry.

great thank you all. I have a siphon with a long hose that attaches to a faucet
that I need to disinfect as well. Could I do a salt bath? If so how much salt do you recommend. Or would a Permanganate bath be good for that? Would like to stay
away from bleach if possible.

I guess that a salty enough solution would do the trick but I wouldn't know how salty to go. In that instance I would use permanganate
