Just wanted to say hi all. I have just set up my 4ft (?40 gallon) tank after a 4 year break (have kept a little aquarium running in the meantime but moving house has put paid to having the big tank set up).

I hope to stock it with Discus cichlids and some companion fish eg tetras, clown loach (which I already have) so am sure I will be speaking to you in the cichlid forum before long!

Cheers

PS if anyone has any thought on what might be 'interesting to look at' companions for Discus please let me know! :o)

Hi. Thanks for your thoughts. I have been told that clown loach work well and also tetras. I was hoping angel fish but one source (who knows alot about Discus) said no to them. Will wait and see what others say :o)

Welcome to AC! I would advise against clowns in a small 40...

Hi Its funny but I never think of my tank as small but compared to some of the monster tanks people talk about on here i guess it is :o

Its actually 48 (US) gallons (sorry but I am from the UK and forgot that there are two different gallons!!) My 3 clown loach are happy in their little 20 gallon tank and I was hoping they would be OK with discus :o
