I found a 24g nano cube on CL for $125. Includes a few crabs, snails, 30lbs live sand and the tank. I plan on eventually getting a 75-90g tank but would love to start off with one of these small tanks just as a start. Should I go for this or hold out for a better deal?

That looks like a great deal to me.

I might be cautious about the live rock and sand. Definitely find out why they are getting rid of it and that everything works properly.

He upgraded to a 60g apparently and no longer uses this one. As for the live sand, what makes you think I should be cautious? Perhaps has disease? Think I should start with fresh argonite?

The other thing that I was thinking about is the bulbs. I am not sure how long he has had this, but if its more than a year or so, probably am going to want to swap out the bulbs which is going to be about $50 right off the bat...

Yea, I think I made it pretty clear that I was interested. Said I would call him tomorrow when I could pick it up pending approval from the real boss of the house. It's been up on CL for about a week which is strange. But, he has it listed in the pets (community) section as opposed to the for sale section...

from what I have seen for bio cubes w/o any live stuff in it, they be expensive! this sounds like a great price to me!

Alright get this. I go to the guy's house to check out the tank. It's in great shape. The only negative is that it only has 1 of the compact fluorescents, and its old anyways so will have to be replaced, but not a big deal. So regardless, I talk him down to $100. He drains the tank and I am figuring out where to put it in the car. Then all of a sudden, I hear a loud POP. He had picked up the tank still partly full of water, rocks and sand by opposite corners which of course tweaked the glass and boom, it cracked clean in half. Needless to say, I don't have a nice nano tank...

"Um, I think my mom is calling me" :dog:

Actually, I told him "that really sucks, sorry" and I left. If I had cracked it, it would have been another story, but it was all him! Back to craigslist browsing. :look:

The things you learn while setting up a marine tank on your own are priceless. BUt thats a killer deal I would take it. Do you plan on making a reef or FOWLR

oh its meant to be man. saltwater (although expensive) is well worth getting into.. no doubt about it at all... a 14 gal was my first tank and it was awsome.. but the 29 gal biocubes always just do better so keep trying!
