When I saw this in the lfs today, Bio-Spira (:nono:) immediately popped into my head. Its basically Aragonite with salt water and bacteria ready to be added to the tank to jump-start the cycle. Anyone ever see this or try it? (I tried bio spira several times with abysmal results every time).

oh, and a 10lb bag was over $40!!

It works just fine, but the main novelty is not having as much clouding at startup. It is cheaper to simply use regular, dry sand and just use live rock and "real" live sand to seed it. The "real" live sand I am referring to doesn't just have bacteria, but lots of other organisms as well, such as worms, crustaceans, echinoderms, etc.

I set up an Eclipse 20H using 20lbs of CaribSea's version. An Occellaris, some snails and a Peppermint Shrimp went in the next day and there was never a trace of ammonia or nitrite detected the whole 2 yrs the tank was up.
