View Full Version : i'm going to cry..........
i need MAJOR consoling here. :sad
i went by a petco i deal with alot the other day, and i noticed they changed the display tanks. instead of a whole wall of individual acrylic tanks with a common filter they swapped to a newer "in wall" system that has multiple filters, like 3 tanks per filter i think.
what does this matter?
they THREW AWAY almost all of the old acrylic tanks! :sad :sad :sad
i asked someone who worked there what happened and she said only a couple of the employees took a couple of the old tanks and the rest went into the dumpster. :shake: so like 30 or 40 acrylic tanks, most were around 30 or 40 gallons....... out to the scrapyard........ :( :( :(
i knew you'd feel my pain...... ;) :D

Time to go rumaging throught their dumpster?
Really though, why wouldn't they just sell them all at really low prices and make a buck or two off them?

LOL! :D
it was too late by the time i heard about it or noticed it, the dumpster had to be emptied already. :(
as far as selling them, i don't think they thought they could or something. or they didn't want to detract from selling the new ones....... who knows?
i had a friend that bought a "dutch aquarium" from them for like $400. the heater alone had to be worth almost that, and it was like 250g with a stand (with wheels) and sump all built into it. i did some *minor* modifications to make it fill to the top, it did only fill 1/2 way originally. i wish i had the room for it, my friends already bored with it, but he wanted alot more than he paid.
i've seen petco do some really dumb things like this several times now..........
edit: in a way swapping the tanks made decent sense for *them*. they had a couple of outbreaks of ich or some other stuff last year and with a shared filtration system it traveled all thru the tanks. the new tanks you just quarantine the 3 or 4 tanks on a filter. cheaper and easier to treat and you don't have to totally stop selling fish.

If you had known about it ewok, how many do you think you would have taken? I would have probably filled my car, several times. Then, I would have had to come up with a way to not have my mother kill me when she found a bunch of tanks in a closet or something.;)
the place i work for, we just moved and got a DAS, so all of our 20 longs, 30 super longs, and all sorts of random tanks are in the basement of the new place.. the 30 super longs are awsome, its like 4 feet long, and really short. i wnat them all!!!

they wouldn't have been throwing them out. i own a truck a trailer a house and a garage. i would have found a place to put them until i decided what to do with them. i'm a packrat by nature (or a redneck) and it kills me to see them all trashed like that.
i probably would have sold off all of my glass tanks and switched to acrylic. ;)
not to mention they move alot easier than the glass i would imagine. i'm still undecided what to do about that.... i'm not sure the glass tanks will survive the move.
