View Full Version : what u reckon of my plan?
These are my new stocking plans, to add to my current occupants.
Let me know if you think there are gonna be any probs.
2 Angelfish
1 RTB Shark
2 Yoyo Loaches
3 Kuhlie Loaches,
the angels are gonna be very small (so hopefully they wont munch on my tetras)
Thanks.

the RTB shark and the yoyos will go at each other over feeding territory...
I would not get the shark because of agression possibilities...
there is a smaller loach than the yoyos... called Botia striata

it is called sargent major loach... or as all my lfs's call them indian dwarf loaches.
space wise it is easyer to have 2 or 3 of these smaller loaches in your tank than the yoyos you want.. more space verses the size of the fish means less agression

if you do go with the yoyos, i'd recommend getting a trio instead of just two instead of something else. they're happier in larger groups.

I would go with at least 3 yo-yos and lose the shark. You will love the yo-yos. Great personality and very fun to watch.

yeah i couldn't agree more. they're some of my favorite fish! red-tail sharks tend to be nippy anyway. i had one last year (gave it away) and it annoyed everything. my father has one now, and his is the most pleasant fish you can find. you never know.

an addition: totally didn't see the angelfish add too. i wouldn't do it. they'll grow fast and pick off your neons one by one. a friend of mine bought 3 quarter-sized angelfish and threw them into his nice community tank. they're now dollar-sized, and the glo-lite tetra population has plummetted from 10 to 3 since the angels arrived. if you want the neons to flourish (i'm sure 17 looks real cool!), i wouldn't add angels. maybe gouramis?

I can't say that I have ever had a problem with adult angels eating adult neons. Neons can get pretty bulky in my experience, at least all mine have which makes it difficult for the angels to eat them. I currently keep 5 neons in with a full grown angel and two other angels (one of which just hit maturity). I have yet to see them even try to eat neons...
The only time I have ever seen an angel go after neons was a large silver one I used to have... he was extremely aggressive as well.
I think the most important factor is raising the angels and neons together and to make sure that the neons have plenty of places to swim away from the angel. Angels tend to get discouraged quickly from trying to catch smaller fish that they just can't catch and eventually just give up.
thx for the replies guys. My heart has been really set on the RTB shark, since day one! Is there an alternative, like same sort of shape, which may be ok?
