Here are a few shots of my 55g tank..

Plants:

1 bunch of hornwort
1 huge wisteria
1 bunch of red ludwigia (spelling?)
2 amazon swords on the left and right of the tank
1 stem of pennywort (its been growing, but slowly)
2 stems of frill (in the back corner, probly cant even see it)
1 bunch of java ferns
and i think thats it for plants.. I have a few different plants to test what will grow and what wont.

Lighting:

80watts total... 2 x 40w Sylvania Full Spectrum fluorescent T12 bulbs.

Its actually a shop light that I bought for cheap, about $8 on clearance. It came fully assembled with the ballasts. I just went to home depot and bought some brackets to hold it up off the tank. And I painted it flat black to match my tank and stand.

Substrate:

1 inch of Eco-Complete on the bottom, and about and inch and a half or regular small pebble gravel.

Filters:

2 Whisper 30-60 model power filters.. BUT, theyr gettin replaced. I just ordered my BRAND NEW Eheim 2234 ECCO canister filter today.. so itl be here soon! Best thing is that I bought if for $99 brand new shipped to my door :D

Inhabitants:

12 tiger barbs
6 Yoyo loaches
4 Otocinclus cats (i had 6 but 2 died :( )
5 black skirt tetras
3 red tetras (forgot what they are really called tho)

As far as fish, am I maxed or overstocked? or do I have room for more still? Lol just wondering :hypnotized:

Anyways, I have some rescaping to do.. I dont really like the way it is right now. Il do that when my new Eheim canister filter comes in tho :)

Comments, suggestions, and advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for lookin :)

Gota go do a water change now, and add some fresh new water :hi:

80 watts on a 55 gallon tank, that works out to be about 1.4545454545454545454545454545455, lol, watts per gallon. i think you're good to go on most low to medium light plants. i'd personally go with more swords (but stick to the ones that don't get huge like mine! most leaves straight up go well over six inches above the water! lol), maybe some bacopa, and some vals. vals send off runners like rabbits make baby rabbits, lol, so your tank will fill in nicely in short order.

I think you should add a mid to large size piece of hard scape to your tank. That, plus some plants, will really add a lot of depth. I'm sure your fish will appreciate it too.

Congrats on your filter purchase.

I want to see updated pics when you add the canister filter and rescape the tank!

Thanks! :D im pretty content because i got a good deal on it.. at Petsmart they run for $155-ish and I got mine brand new for $99... so yeah, I saved some monies :)

Id like to find a nice piece of branchy driftwood and add it in there, and Id like to also find some nice "bushy" plants.. plants that will provide additional coverage for my loaches..

I have a few different plants in there right now.. Im trying to figure what will and what wont grow under my 1.5w of light.

Beautiful planted tank!pics are very clear also!

Thanks! its gettin there.. the pix look decent considering them came from my Nokia e71x smartphone.. Lol. Nothing fancy but eh :)

with 80w, you should be good with most low light plants, try some anubias and crypts...

id say keep the whisper filters and add on the eheim, doesnt hurt to over-filter your tank. you are def. not overstock, you can add a couple more fish if you like.

^^ cool.. iv always wanted to try anubias..

any recommendations as far as what kind of other fish will do well in a planted tank?

I like the look of silver dollars but they will eat my plants. :(

find some nice driftwood, add some more rocks and a pile of plants. low light. i'm runnin 1.49 wpg on my 55 things dont grow real fast but they are all healthy
