i just got to convicts tried to get a pair us ut ovios if thier a female cause one of mine wich i think may be a femal has all black belly but on each side there are about 7 red scales not in one spoy scattere but still all connected ur opinions would be appreciated
Females have the red on their sides, males do not.

one more question then how do i know when their a pair they both swim around with each other but could that be because hey are both new to the tank and also thnx for ur help i just wasnt sure if males could also get a little of the red scales

That's a 4+ inch male Convict. Not a hint of red. See the long trailers on the fins? Definitely a male. If you see any red on the sides, it's a female.
You just put the fish in there, it will take some time for it to settle down. Give it a few weeks. You might see them preparing a rock or making a pit in the substrate for use as a nest. Once they get started, they work fast, however. You will turn the light on one day and there will be eggs everywhere.

keep up the water changes, mine seem to spawn "right after". overfeeding also helps.
