Hmm... 33 gallon flat-back hex... empty so long. Pool Filter sand... some wood... already to go. just sitting in my home office, begging for some aquatic lifeforms... what to do...

I know... check in w/ my cichlid friends and see what they think? good idea, Rich! Suggestions?

shell dwellers, julidochromis, maybe a small breed of lamprologus (brichardi?) altocomps are a maybe, or else you could do 4-5 of a small species of mbuna. thats all that comes to mind at the moment, im sure theres more.

yeah... I was thinking about some shellies, like maybe multies. I dunno. I have a local source for some julies, so I was also considering that. I think I'll avoid the altocomps... I have penty of altos already in my 55 gallon. brichardi, huh? hmmm....

I am liking the multi/julie idea... but will think about the brichardi. thanks for the suggestions... anyone else feel free to jump in... I love getting the ol' imagination stirred!

you could go with soem smaller SA/CA cichlids like rainbows, firemouths, blue acaras, etc.

Tank dimensions, please? I know it is not easy with an hex; but, can I have a close idea?

eh... approx. 3 feet long on the back side, which is flat. maybe 18 inches high? and you know... hex on the front and sides. I can measure more specifically later, but that's about the gist of it. I have been on the fence re: SA cichlids. I do like rainbow fish and haven't had any in awhile though... hmmm... decisions, decisions.

The approximate "dimensions" of a 33 hex are 36x12x16 inches.

I think a colony of shellies with a pair of julies or another rock dwelling lamprologine would be nice. Maybe some rainbows (praecox, etc.) for the top.

hmmm.... nice idea. question... would furcata rainbows do okay in this setup?

A pair of Brichardi's would be sweet or you could go west African and do a Buffalo head setup or a Kribensis setup..

I have the same tank that I was considering eventually setting up for cichlids (shellies are so cute!) Make sure to post pictures so I will have motivation! :)
