I got this c02 cylinder for free from a friends broken kegerator. Also gave me the regulator and some other stuff on the hose, going to replace the hose and get rid of the stuff that isnt the regulator and needle valve. What else do i need to run this into my 240g tank. I know a bubble counter and electronic solenoid are on the list but i was hoping that someone could tell me about reactors, and about running them inline with the fluval fx5.

I also have this peice of wood i found in a local stream. I looked up how to make it into driftwood a while ago by searching on the forums and read something about soaking it for a few weeks, It soaked in a kiddie pool for about two months, changing the water daily at first and then about twice a week for the remaining month. It has now been sitting on the lawn, and it is not rotting, just soft on one end, only about a milimeter into the wood though, can i still salvage it somehow??

you can use this link for a reactor
http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/diy/22296-rex-reactor.html

nice easy and simple. As for the wood, if it's soft don't use it. It really depends on the type of wood. But you can try wire brushing the soft till it's gone or cutting the soft part off. But being that it's soft I would avoid it. That regulator will work but buying the bubble counter and solenoid might run you the same price as used regulator elsewhere so shop around. You can get them cheap sometimes. Gl with it all maybe other can add more info on the wood

the soft part was very thin, i could scratch off the soft part with a fingernail, but if its very risky i probably wont even bother

well for the regulators the only think i would keep is the regulator body and cylinder. make sure to get the regulator and the cylinder tested by some one welding shop maybe? you will need a needle or metering valve and a solenoid. this site (http://www.njagc.net/articles/co2.htm) has a good artical on alot of the equipment you need.

do you have a pot that you can boil that wood in?

it might be salvageable if you wire brush all the junk off of it (or sand it if you dont mind a very smooth look) and then boil it for a few hours....i know you already soaked it but boiling will help kill anything that might be in it that has survived outside in the kiddie pool over the summer

good score on the co2 tank and regulator!

you might be able to get a selenoid from water-testrs.com...for 35 bucks just make sure that it is compatible with your regulator. call/email them and ask. since water-testers.com owns several different websites they can probably get you some stuff from their other sites as well...such as co2 tubing and a reactor

good luck!

my only problem with boiling the wood is finding a pot big enough, if you notice the tire in the background of one of the pics you can get a good size reference
