I'm in the process of setting up a 29 gal tank. I will put 2 angel fish in it. I will add 3 cories and 6 ottos, How many black neons can zi safely add? It will be a heavily planted tank and I am seeding with an established filter media pkg.The filters will be an aqua clear 50 and an aqua clear 30, with a magnum HOT 250 for water polishing I'm weeks away from getting fish. any other suggestions would be appreciated. TIA

My first suggestion would be to not put two angels in a 30 gal. If it was a barebottom breeding set up with daily cleanings, it might be okay, but for a planted community tank that is too small for two angels, IMHO. I would put one in there, max.
Second, you need more than 3 cories. They will not be happy in such a small group. 5 minimum.
With one angel, 5 cories, and 6 otos, I would add no black neons ;)

Many people, myself included, keep breeding pairs of angels in 29's. I would however suggest keeping only the 2 angels and at least 6 cories. The cories I would stay away from if the pair bonds and start to mate since angels are known to become quite aggressive when they spawn.
P.S. The 29 I keep mine in is not bare bottom it is in fact heavily planted.

Alot of people advise against keeping otos and angels. Once angels get a certain size, they will try and eat the otos. Otos have little spikes behind their heads to defend against this type of situation. Usually both fish end up dying because the oto gets stuck in the angels mouth. (When I first joined AC someone posted a pic of thier beloved angel with a oto stuck in its mouth, so it really does happen.) My personal suggestion would be one angel, about 4 - 5 cories, and 5 - 6 larger tetras like rummy nosed tetras. That might be pushing it stock wise, but if the tank is heavily planted and you keep up on your WCs; I think you would be okay.

I keep angels. several tanks.
29 is the minimum I suggest for angels. a pair in a 29.. bottom dwellers are fine 5-6 cories would be fine.
29's are usually taller than 30's(std tanks)
a pair is fine in a 29. or a single angel will give you more chices to stocking.
No to otocinclus.. tho they are great fish many stay small.. a large angel may find them a tasty treat.
Mine ate my oto's.
I do like black neons or cardinals with them but the angel may target them too.
another fish you can keep with angles.. Rams.
keep in mind that some angels can get large.
good luck
