about 5-10 minutes ago i was watching my pygmy leaf chameleon walk to what i thought to go catch a cricket which was in near sight of her anyways she started to climb downward and then i knew she didnt want a cricket, so when she was going down she stopped and started rubbing her eye back and forth on a plastic vine. is this serious? i mean is there anything i can do to help stop the ich?

I'd call your vet in the morning for suggestions. I worked for PetSmart for a while and we had a veiled chameleon with eye issues like that. Part of our problem was not keeping the enclosure moist enough, and also the calcium powder for dusting crickets can be an irritant so it's better to gut-load the crickets on high calcium foods. The vet we dealt with also prescribed special eye drops to help clear it up, I don't remember what kind. Again...call your vet for recommendations, these were things we did for a veiled chameleon, I've never dealt with a pygmy one and don't know if they have the same requirements.

It's possible that the tank isn't humid enough for your cham, it might have something in it's eye or it could have a vitamin A deficiency. Make sure you're spraying the tank twice a day: once in the morning and once in the evening. I also keep a bottle of Zoomed Turtle Eye Drops (trust me, it's safe for all reptiles) around on hand in case one of my turtles/lizards has an eye issue.

That is how chameleons clean their eyes. Mist the enclosure real well and let him rub it. It will look like he's really rubbing it hard and the eye will bulge out but this is all part of the process. How often are you misting the enclosure and for how long each time?

im usually doing the 2 heavy misting a day and sometimes a third if its a hot day. but i probably mist for less then 2 minutes. my humidity is in the low 70's sometimes high 70's. but i can also lower the humidity if needed with my table fan. anywasy where i live it is very impossible to find a vet that actually knows about these types of things, although i was told the other day that one of the employes at my local feed store studied in exotic animals so she could most likely help me out with finding what i need. but to find eye drops around her sounds a little difficult and expensive, can i get these type of eye drops from any local pet store or do i have to get them from a vet....and i really really wish i had a vet :(
