Chlorine - how long to sit water?

i need to an urgent water change and ive run out of water conditioner. the water has been sitting for 24H in a large spring water bottle with only a small hole to pour out the water. the bottle isnt filled all the way up so the surface area is the size 3 CD cases lined up. the water has also been aerating for 6 hours of the 24hours.

is it safe to use?

You are probably fine. Maybe the best thing to do would be some small water changes so that any chlorine left will be in really small doses.

I count on 48 hours (with much larger surface exposure, circulation, aeration, and heating to tank temps) but I still check for chlorine titer.

But if there is chloramine in your water, just sitting will not remove/neutralize it. For chloramine you need the right chemicals.

CB, Toronto water is treated with chloramine. Letting it sit or even aerating it will not break the chlorine ammonia bond for quite a long time. I think it takes a week or more.

put it out in the sun. unless your changing over 30% i wouldnt even worry. i done some pretty big water changes before and ive been fine.

How would putting water with chloramine out in the sun neutralize the chloramine?

didnt read the part about chloramine, was just answering his question about the chlorine. i should really read the entire post better :o . still sticking with my, its no big deal with little water changes though.
