Here is a little back story
It all started with the purchase of a tiny Oranda Goldfish 2 years ago. I didnt think it would last too long but thought, "what the heck I will deal with it". It was a 2 gallon Glass BOwl Kept in the edge of our upstairs bath about 5 feet from direct sun. It had one Jave fern and some floating plant not sure of the species.
Because it live next to the tub and I kept 2 jugs of water under the sink, I was able to change the water every couple of days/. it actually survived very well. Last february we had an accident...
The cleaning lady broke the bowl. It took her about 10 minutes to find the fish and then she put it in a drinking glass of cold water. It floated to the top and was left for dead for me to come home an dispose of.
By 6pm it had somehow recovered. It stayed in a little plastic bowl for a couple of days until I purchased one of those cheap 80 dollars Biocubes.
Being the hacker I am I had to tinker . I wanted to see if with the right plant mix I could have the tak live in direct sunlight. it was a 6 gallon with one of those Co2 canisters made of plastic. It had a little 7 watt fluorescent an was right in a west facing window. No testing done.
substrate was laitrite (sp)? 2" with a 1" layer of gravel.
PLants were a bunch of micro swards and 5 regul;ar AMazon Swords , some Anubas and Java Fern almost no Algae to speak of. but the plants did seem too yellow
about a 70% water changes every 2 -3 days was easy since it was in my studio which is equipt with a sink.
THen came Summer... It was moved to a 50+ Gallon outdoor container garden with Water Hyacinth, lillies and the plants from the tank.
he did great now,,,,
I have set up his winter home a 37 gallon high tank with a layer of plain black gravel and black mostly river stone
one anubas one sword and one java fern originally from 2 years ago.
20 watts Flourecent with an additional 27 ho readling lamp for now.
What I would like is to see with enough light I could to Grow Water lettuce or my current Hyacnth. (no cover)
then have long leaved plants for vertical accents. Like...onion plants?
ideas? I know I jumped the gun on the substrate but I figured I would used pots to give each plant ideal conditions
the filter for now is a small internal..
