I found this little guy scurrying around my house. I've seen these critters on our outer walls and they have always intrigued me. I live in the Florida Panhandle, but I have seen them in Central Florida too. Can anybody tell me what kind of lizard this is, and if I could maybe keep him in a terrarium:

No idea on the species. but if it's running about your house anyway, then no harm in a big cage, bowl of water and a handful of flies and see how it works out.

Looks like a small common or "house" gecko. but hard to tell from the pics.

If that is the case, then yes, it should be fine to keep it, most of the ones in the pet trade are wild caught anyway.

It looks like a Mediterranean house gecko. They're very easy to keep and breed. Just google "House Gecko Care Sheet" and I'm sure you'll find all the info you need if you decide to keep it.

Well I originally thought it was a scorpion. Pleasant surprise!

I also see Anoles running around the house from time to time (it's a rental and we have horribly sealed doors). Would those be fine with the house gecko?

That would depend on how big the enclosure is. Also a tiny house gecko could be food for a larger anole.

I think it must be the end of breeding, all I see are the baby anoles (I believe they're green, but all the young ones look greenish-brown). This gecko is barely an inch.

I would probably need a 20 gallon for both species, correct?

Bigger is always better. They're both a climbing species so get a tall aquarium.

Looks a lot cuter than the scary squirrel like thing that came out from behind my curtain yesterday and scared the you know what out of me.

Believe it or not, I have seen these guys running around some neighborhoods here in Central California. Someone's pets must have escaped....

I believe it seeing how they are a cosmopolitan species. Pretty much any warm location with lots of shipping activity coming into the country can be home to these little stowaway survivers.

Could I create a paludarium with my figure 8 puffer and this gecko?

I would say no. The salt in the water may be harmful to the gecko. Mixing species is never easy.

So how do I feed the thing?

I've been putting some betta blood worms in the container, but I'm not sure if it's eating.
The lizard is probably 1/8th of an inch thick by 1.5 inches long. Where do I get food for it?

We have those in the DFW area as well now. Fruitflis would probably be a good food for them. They station themselves on the side of the house under our outside floodlight at night to catch the tiny insects. You could catch some insects in the same manner and feed to them. Cute little guys. I have also found them in the house. Their tail comes off quite easily I might add. Good luck with your new pet.

I second the fruit fly idea. These guys need LIVE FOOD. Prepared food will not work. Fruit fly cultures are easy to keep and most chain pet stores now sell them. But if you are unable to keep this gecko fed I would let it go outdoors ASAP.
