Hello, my name is Keith. I am from Shreveport Louisiana, and I will be getting an aquarium soon. I don't know if I want to do a planted freshwater or a FOWLR. Any advise will be appreciated.

Welcome to AC. Since ur new to the hobby I would do a lot of reading and research. I would go fake plants first and if you can keep up with the perameters and maintnance, then I would go for it. Just my two cents, good luck.

Just a tip since your new to aquariums, be sure to fishless cycle your tank.

OK. I think I want a planted 10g. Low light plants of course. 2 dwarf puffers. I am also thinking of setting up some kind of sump system to have more water in the system to help keep the show tank more clean and easier to maintain the water perameters. I will have the show tank on top with a overflow box - going down to the next shelf into a refuge for a snail colony (for the Dwarf puffers) - going down to a small sump. What do ya'll think about that?

Welcome!
A sump/refugium isnt needed on a smaller tank but it would still help and would be a fun project!

Yeah, I think the sump/refugium would help with a more stable tank being more water in the system, due to the DPs being nasty eaters and such. I am working on a diagram for the idea. I'll post it as I go along.

The picture is just the basic idea.
I am starting with the idea, then I will set it up (build, plant, test sump, etc.), cycle, and prepare for DPs.
Give me some feedback.
Thanks
